What if we still had Tim Rattay? Do you think we would have a shot at a serious playoff run. Tim Rattay had more experienc and a much better deep ball then Smith and he never had the luxury of a solid offensive line that Smith has. Oh what could of been.

You mean the same Tim Rattay who can't even get on the field sitting behind Gradkowski and Chris Simms in Tampa?

I think Niners fans would pass. He had some decent outings but he never struck me as a quality starter.

Yeah, but look at the oline that Tim Rattay had to work with. The same oline that nearly crippled the great jeff garcia and the descendants of an oline that put Steve Young into Retirement. With a little more time in the pocket ,i think Tim rattay would of put up huge numbers with the offense that we have now.

The "great" Jeff Garcia?

Dude, pass that **** don't bogart it.

Tim Rattay can't get off the bench in Tampa.

but if your gonna say that, what proof did he give to make anybody think he would have been good under other circumstances.

What proof. Do you remember the rams and steelers games. he showed that with time in the pocket he could pick a defense apart. No qb had a chance with the line we had in the donahue era. Not even montana.

I was about to dismiss this as retarded, but then I remembered Rattay having a few good games. I decided to research and he actually played damn well.

His one year of starting.

Edit: The few games he played http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpag.../gamelogs/2003 in 2003 are pretty impressive as well. Moreso than Smith..I'm not suggesting anything, I'd rather have Smith because he's developing but it's not completely retarded as I initially thought.

i think rattay deserves more of a shot than he's been given. but it's hard to argue with where he's at. with the bucs, the season was over with simms and williams both getting hurt. why bother with rattay? find out what you have in the rookie. rattay is a great backup, imo, but not much more.

He reminds me of Billy Volek, not as good though. Maybe Matt Schaub
