On one side, the 49ers have improved on:

Offense:
Allan and Jennings, when healthy, have helped start a running game for the 49ers
Alex Smith has improved. As hard as I have been riding the team, Smith has done better then last year.
Vernon Davis, he has gotten off to a slow start, but I'm encouraged he'll get better.

Gray areas:
A Bryant needs to be thrown more, or somebody in WR 2 needs to establish himself to stop the double teaming on Bryant. We need to take advantage of mismatches, but we don't.
Hicks and RObertson need to improve in short running gains when Gore has to come out for breaks.
K Harris has to stop costing us big plays with his usual FLAG on his holding! Everytime we get a big play, I cringe that K Harris will be flagged!
We need to establish the WRs, who will be no. 1 through 5.

The bad:
I have never liked our Dline. B Young is being asked to play all 4 roles on it to get to QBs. We need to go over who can get to the QB, who can't , and cut the ones who can't.
The LB to me is short ever since Peterson took a walk. It's also why we don't go 3-4.
The Secondary, part of it is fixed with Harris, and Spencer is not doing bad. But areas in FS, SS, Nickel and Dime set ups need to be fixed/established. We need someone on Secondary who can get to the QB when need be.
Oline depth, Allan and Jennings hurt cost us games, running, and we lack good backups.

For the 49ers to be a contender, what has to be done on the team to make it better?

Do we establish a Dline for 4-3? I feel a strong yes because I've seen teams rushing just 4 to get the QB.
Should we short up via FA in LB or just draft one or two LBs?
Who would look good on Secondary via FA or draft? Harris has been a steal.
Who looks good FA or draft for Oline backups?
Should we consider getting that WR Calvin JOhnson if he's still around.

Before some 49er fans cry foul over what I'm saying, I have watched highlights of games, read in the paper, read in the sporting news to formulate this opinion. I have watched the 5th quarter highlights on the SF station, and listen to Postgame on KNBR, so while I haven't watched a lot of the games on TV and heard it on radio (until the Ram incident), I've observed enough to formulate what is needed for the team and I appreciate some help in this. I want us to be a contender for 7 years is enough. I want us to beat some big teams, not the losing teams all the time.

Too tired to post to each point, but you make sense in this instead of blasting the team like usual. I hope this is a turnaround for us so we can have some civility in here.
