Smith is beginning to suck again. Just a few weeks ago I was ready to laud the guy as an up and comer. I think I'll reserve judgment for a while now.

Wow, I havent' heard any bad press on Smith's play yet, but I haven't been able to personally see him play so I'm relying on the ESPN morons too. I'm just surprised to see this because all I hear is "most improved player in the league" from everyone.

Maybe Rex and Alex were doing steroids together, but then Shawn Merriam got caught, and they freaked out and flushed all their steroids down the toilet. Now we are seeing unchemically-assisted grossman and smith... and it isn't pretty.

He has been bad for a while. Frank Gore has masked it. Our defense played well for 3 games too so no one really cared.

49ers need to surround him with more playmakers

Gore is amazing and will be the center piece of that offense for a while to come...

but I don't think that Alex Smith's WRs are doing enough to help him out...Bryant is good for maybe 1 or 2 big plays every couple of weeks but that's about it. I think Vernon Davis needs to be involved more in the passing game he's shown flashes when he's not dropping balls.

I have to agree with madman on this. Now I'm not saying we should trade or cut Smith, but I think we should sit him by the Denver game and he needs to analyze what he's done wrong. On one hand, Norv Turner is teaching him some good basics, but Smith has to pass more obviously because the one dimension is not and never will work on this team. Now hear me out, while we did have a running game with Roger Craig, then Garrison Hearst, the QBs we had had to throw the ball at the same time. This team was balanced in run and pass, maybe it was like 50% run and 50% pass. The QBs threw 300 yards a game. WHat has Smith done? HE's passed a bunch of ugly numbers that I feel we need to bench him for the time being. What difference will it make if we sit him out of Arizona or the final at Denver? Look who we had at the park today, PACKER FANS! We resembled Sun Devil Stadium today, and that is inexcusable out there at the home of the 49ers to see ugly Packer fans at MY HOUSE! 5 and 11, or 6 and 10 will net us some better picks so I say dump the other games and bench Smith until next year.
