So after watching 3 quarters of Smith playing this preseason I've come to the conclusion that he is one damn good QB. Now you may chuckle... or even laugh at this statement as it seems it may be to early to come upon such a conclusinon however his intelligence and decision making has been so incredible. It started near the end of last year but it has fully blossomed now that he has the offensive talent to compete at a higher level. Every pass this preseason has been on target besides i want to say 1 or 2. I'm not talking about accurate as in giving the WR a good chance of catching the ball I'm talking about pin point Peyton Manning accurate. Now lets not jump the gun here he's no Manning... yet, but he has all the tools to be a potential pro bowl QB this year and for many years to come. Mind you this is all w/out Gore his all pro running back! His college coach Urban Meyer(sp?) even said that he(Smith) would be bad out the gate but that after 2-3 seasons he would be an excellent QB. This would be because he's not the greatest athlete out there but his intelligence is so good after learning the game for a few years he would be able to disect defenses with ease. Now being a long time member here I've gone thru his first season and all the horrible comments made but I think people not only here but throughout the league are finally seeing why the 49ers took him #1 overall. If you haven't seen his play this year I'd say go to nfl.com and look under his 2 games so far and take a look for yourselves.
... really excited about this year and I thought he def. earned his own thread after the 1st year and a half of bashing that he took on these boards.

The only thing I'm worrying about is the D-line. Franklin is out till the opener along with Young. We'll see how well they do when they return from injury. Let's not stray away from the subject tho, Smith kicks ***.

I admit, I wasn't convinced he was worth the #1 pick, but he looks to be developing well. I think he's going to be a good one as well. He's definitely got some zip on his passes.

I said it a few months ago and dont mind saying it now, i think he will be a Pro Bowl QB this year and lead the 49ers to the playoff
I see him alot like Rivers in that while he might not have the great physical abilities of say Manning or Russell, hes incredibly smart and and has great leadership abilities, which to me are two most important features a QB can have.

I remember being on here during his rookie season, and hearing people dogging him, as a former teammate of his i witnessed his growth first hand while at Utah. Just as in the NFL, he struggled at first but once he got a grasp for the speed of the game and the system, it was over. I'm not saying that he is going to be lights out successful in the NFL, as he was in College, but as i've been saying from the beginning he is going to come around and prove that he belongs in the NFL and that he deserved being picked #1. Not to be an *******, but to all the haters, "I told u so."

I'm still not sold on the 49ers as a playoff team - yet - but I can see Smith making the Pro Bowl.

The NFC West is basically a crap shoot right now but I'm def. liking the chances of the 49ers making the playoffs this year.

Man this guy got slammed so bad around here two years ago it wasn't even funny. He still has a lot to prove as a number 1 pick but he's definitely coming around. The end of last season he started to make plays but this year he looks quite a bit better than he did last year...
I am amazed watching him drop back in the pocket, look off receivers, and fire perfect passes to the receivers. All the talk this offseason was how Smith and the offense would suffer without Norv but Alex has looked better this preseason than I have ever seen him look.
Some of the passes he is making I didn't think he would ever be able to make. He really looks incredible. I hope it translates to the regular season. No reason to think why it wouldn't.
The TD the other night was beautiful. He stared the safety off to DJAX's side then came back and threw a perfect pass to D Walker where only he could catch it.
His best pass so far though was to Arnaz Battle down to the 1 in the first game. That pass was just perfect in every way.
I predicted several months ago that he would throw for around 3500 yards and 25 TD's this year. He sure is looking like it so far.

He'll throw for 3500 yards, 17 TDs and 12 INTs, completing 59% of his passes with 6.9 yards per completion (300/507) with a QB rating of 81.
