Dilfer leaves game with head injury before halftime vs. Vikings
Sunday, December 09, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Quarterback Trent Dilfer left the San Francisco 49ers' game against Minnesota on Sunday with a head injury after taking a hard hit shortly before halftime.

Shaun Hill, the third-string quarterback who hadn't taken a snap in his two seasons with San Francisco, took over in the second half with San Francisco trailing 27-0.

Dilfer, a 14th-year pro who has been leading the 49ers' struggling offense in Alex Smith's absence, scrambled in an attempt to pick up a first down in the final minute of the first half. Backup cornerback Charles Gordon made the tackle by driving his left shoulder into Dilfer's helmet.

The quarterback went down motionless and stayed on the turf for at least four minutes, with players from both teams gathering around him. Dilfer, who fell a few inches short of the first down, eventually walked gingerly to the sideline and sat on the bench.

He left the field on a cart moments after both teams headed to the locker room at halftime.

Hill didn't play poorly, It was mostly garbage time, but played pretty well at times.

Is it just me or are QBs going to be extinct with all the injuries this season?

KNBR"s been harping for 5 weeks to start Shaun Hill, they got their wish. I actually like him more then Dilfer.

Just seems like so many more this year though? Many teams are looking on the streets for QBs. I wouldn't be suprised it they drafted a few baseball pitchers to finish the season.

Also they might even give Vick work release to help fill the void.

that's blasphemy

Also, there are tons of injuries every year, but they are forgotten once the season ends and especially by the time the new season begins

I hear it every year, so many (insert position here) have gotten hurt this year. Its a violent sport

Michael Vick may be Vinny Testaverde's age before he suits up again. Maybe the Raiders are getting ready to sign him up to backup J Russel.
