I like Lloyd but he has to get better separation at the line of scrimmage and be tougher over the middle. He pulled up in a game last year that could have been a TD and the coaching staff was furious. However, he does make some spectacular catches. I guess they are not totally sold on him to give him a long term deal.

When the San Francisco 49ers announced that they had offered tenders to four of the players on Thursday I wasn't very surprised. Especially when you consider that three of the four names, Ken Dorsey, Mike Adams, and Maurice Hicks would be considered irreplaceable members of the team.
But the failure of the 49ers to sign Brandon Lloyd to a long-term deal, while expected, was a bit surprising. Lloyd was one of the few bright spots on San Francisco's offense, hauling in 48 receptions for 733 yards and five touchdowns. He also showed a knack for making spectacular plays, something that the 49ers have been starving for since Terrell Owens left the fold two years ago.
Now that Lloyd has his 1-year tender he is free to test the free agent market, and although any team that wants his services would have to match the tender and likely give up a draft pick, the fact is that one of the 49ers' few playmakers could make a premature exit from San Francisco in the coming months.
Head coach Mike Nolan has made some significant strides since joining the team, but this curious move could end up backfiring and tarnishing his otherwise solid resume, especially if Brandon Lloyd does in fact move on to another team and ends up putting up Pro Bowl numbers.
Hopefully for Nolan and 49ers fans, Lloyd will stay put and continue to put up solid numbers here in San Francisco.
