Seahawks' D-line gets a little stouter

KIRKLAND -- Calling Brandon Mebane a wide body doesn't quite do justice to the Seahawks' third-round draft choice.
With 314 pounds stacked onto his compact 6-foot-1 frame, the defensive tackle from Cal who is big on making lasting first impressions is difficult to overlook.
"His best trait is his ability to hold the point and be stout at the point of contact," Seahawks president Tim Ruskell said after making Mebane the 85th selection in April's NFL draft. "He is also a very quick first-step guy. We thought he was a disruptive run player."
Mebane flashed those same qualities during the team's spring minicamps, and because he signed a multiyear contract Tuesday, they will be on display again Sunday when the Seahawks open training-camp practices.
Also Tuesday, fourth-round draft choice Baraka Atkins agreed to terms. The defensive end from Miami was scheduled to sign the multiyear deal once he arrived at the team's headquarters.
