Babineaux and Womack are first players to fall

Quote:
Jordan Babineaux went down in pain Sunday morning about an hour before coach Mike Holmgren's hopeful statement.
"You just keep your fingers crossed that no one gets nicked up during training camp if possible," Holmgren said.
Maybe Holmgren and the Seahawks should try something else to change their luck. Babineaux, a defensive back, and offensive lineman Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack will miss several weeks of practices and exhibition games because of injuries.
Babineaux, one of the heroes of last year's playoff win over Dallas, has a bone bruise in his right knee and will be out for at least three to four weeks, Holmgren said after Monday's morning practice.
Babineaux was on crutches with a thick leg brace after having an MRI on his knee Sunday.
A year ago, injuries crippled the Seahawks' chances of making it back to Super Bowl. Camp opened Sunday with optimism and few major injuries. The Seahawks hope the Womack and Babineaux injuries aren't a trend.
Babineaux, a key contributor and part-time starter last season at safety and cornerback, would have been limited in camp anyway because of offseason shoulder surgery. He saved the game for the Seahawks last January at Qwest Field with an open-field tackle of the Cowboys' Tony Romo on a botched 19-yard field-goal attempt that would have given Dallas a 23-21 lead with 1:14 left. Seattle won 21-20.
Womack just can't seem to shake misfortune. The seventh-year pro strained his hamstring before the morning practice, Holmgren said, and left the field following team stretching.
Womack, who has a long history of injuries, underwent knee surgery in June and wasn't expected to play until the fourth exhibition game. The latest injury shouldn't change that, Holmgren said.
But it will give Womack something else to rehabilitate. Womack has had toe, ankle, quadriceps, triceps, groin, elbow and hand injuries in the past.
Also, starting center Chris Spencer is taking part in practice after shoulder surgery in the offseason and more soreness during the May minicamp. Holmgren said Spencer will be able to go full speed after the team's intrasquad scrimmage this weekend.
