The Seahawks' center of the future has become the left guard of the present.
Chris Spencer, who was drafted in the first round last year to eventually play center, will move into the starting lineup for Sunday's story line-laden matchup with the New York Giants because left guard Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack could be sidelined six weeks after spraining his right knee in the Seahawks' home opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
It was announced Sunday that Womack had injured his left knee, and Holmgren said after the game Womack could have returned if needed.
That all changed after additional tests were conducted Monday, and the offensive line underwent yet another change with Spencer stepping in for Womack, the replacement for departed All-Pro Steve Hutchinson.
"Chris is active in there, he's very athletic in there," coach Mike Holmgren said. "I like the stuff he does. Now with a week of practice under his belt, he'll be a little more sure of assignments and things we're asking him to do."
I really like Chris Spencer alot more so I am ok with it. The problem is Spencer is our center of the future and we need Pork Chop to stay healthy and play well. Injuries to anyone are bad but I really do like Spencer alot more.
