KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Looking to bolster its special teams, the Seattle Seahawks signed free agent wide receiver and kick returner Willie Ponder on Tuesday.
Ponder
Ponder spent the last three seasons with the New York Giants, playing in 26 games, used primarily on kickoff returns. The sixth-round draft pick in 2003 averaged 25.9 yards per return last season after leading the league in 2004, averaging 26.9 yards per return.
His return average was sixth in the league last year, and he had a career-long 95-yard return for a touchdown against Arizona. Ponder was cut by the Giants on Saturday after New York chose to keep Michael Jennings.
Ponder also has eight career receptions.
To clear room for Ponder, the Seahawks cut receiver Maurice Mann, who was impressive in the preseason and beat out veteran Peter Warrick for the final receiver spot on Seattle's roster. Mann led the Seahawks with 10 catches for 90 yards in the preseason.[/b]

Can any Giants fans, or anyone who watched him play, let me know what they think of him?

great burst of speed and vision on kick returns, doesnt do as well on punt returns, doesnt bring that much to the tabel as a Wide Reciever, and he may fumble a few times over the course of the season.

that's because punt returns require a special talent. You have to be ready sooner. anyways, carry on.

agreed, but some guys can do both some guys cant ya know? I think its more of a fearlessness than a talent, punt returns youve gotta be able to feel when guys are closing in on you without looking at them too

Ponder is one of the best KR guys i've ever seen, but doesn't do punt returns though. It just wasn't worth saving a roster spot for a KR seeing as Chad Morton, RW McQuarters, and Michael Jennings can do both KR and PR, and can play regularly at their positions, whereas ponder wasn't anything more than a 5th WR.

Ponder showed some flashes as a reciever in training camp, he just got himself into Coughlin's doghouse after his fumble in week 9 last season while Michael Jennings has gotten nothing but praise from Coughlin since he got here
