SANTA CLARA — The receivers whom Walt Harris covered this season have often sought out the 49ers cornerback after games to let him know how tough he made it on them. He has fielded calls from friends and former teammates congratulating him on his play.
On Thursday, Harris, 32, received fresh affirmation that his 11th NFL season could be his best when he was named NFC defensive player of the month.
"It's certainly well-deserved. He's done an outstanding job," 49ers coach Mike Nolan said.
Harris had three interceptions and a forced fumble to go with 19 tackles in November, helping the 49ers win three of four games. He's the first 49ers defensive player to win the monthly honor since tackle Dana Stubblefield in November 1997.
"I really came in confident this year. I really came in well-conditioned," Harris said. "I've spent a lot of time in the film room, and the experience of being around the league and seeing this over and over again, it's just clicking."
Harris joined the 49ers last March after being let go by the Washington Redskins. Through 12 games this season, he has a career-high six interceptions. He would like nothing better than to add to that total Sunday, when the 49ers play Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.
Harris, who has also played for Indianapolis and Chicago, has intercepted Favre passes three times, including one in 1998 that he returned 13 yards for a touchdown.
"I jumped a slant route," Harris recalled. "It

was kind of an easy run."
With Green Bay and the 49ers not set to play each other again until 2009, Harris recognized that it could be his last chance to face Favre.
"It would be great to close it out with another interception, and most important the win," Harris said. [/b]
With the peanuts we paid him in FA, he better be producing for this team since there isn't much to call hope on the 49ers defense. Glad to see somebody actually wants to work hard on this team, now if only we can win more then 4 games.
Mercy me, we got 5 wins, and beat 4 nobodies to get them. Talk about progressing along. Keep up the good work, DHNF.

No wonder Pal Joey ran away from home. Pal Joey was probaly thinking "enough of this idiot I'm outta here".
The difference is obvious with Walt Harris, he plays to win and tries hard at it. Rumph just plays for a paycheck and sucks at what he does no matter what team he's on. Rumph lacks the attitude to try hard out there, and it's been that way since we drafted him. GUess some NCAA players just can't adapt to the NFL, and it helps that DOnahue selected the idiot CB.
As for you ARnie, see the I am Ignoring Arnie until further notice as in no comment to your latest Lindsey Lohan rant. I already read it!
