ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Will Witherspoon, who played weakside linebacker during four years with Carolina, has signed with the St. Louis Rams to play in the middle.
Witherspoon led the Panthers in tackles the past two seasons and finishing second in 2003 -- his first season as a full-time starter.
Last season, he had 109 tackles, with two-and-a-half sacks and two interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown against the New York Jets.
Witherspoon was among the most-coveted linebackers in the free-agent pool. His contract includes a $9 million signing bonus. The base salary in the first two years of the deal is guaranteed -- $2 million in 2006 and $4 million next season.
