With Jackson being protected, rookie Brian Leonard is working overtime. The second-round draft pick had nine carries and five receptions vs. the Vikings, followed by a 17-carry, two-catch outing vs. the Chargers.
"I wish we had a cold tub here (at the Dome); I'd jump right in," he said Saturday. "I'm a little more tired. I'll sleep better this week than last week."
Because Leonard has progressed rapidly at tailback, the plan now is to bring him up to speed at fullback. He played both positions at Rutgers.
"He's going to have to take a big step in the next couple of weeks and learn the fullback position as well," Olson said. "From what we've seen so far, there's no reason for us to believe he won't be able to do that."
trust me I watched him play last year with Rutgers, you wont be disappointed with him at FB.... hes a lot like a Mike Alstott back with better blocking ability and he was a big reason for Ray Rice's success
he can catch the ball in the flats, cut to the outside on runs as well as blow up the middle.... solid all around player
he can just play, hes real fast and he makes stuff happen when he gets the ball. He has a nice combo of power and speed, and the most electrifying move in all of sports....the leonard leap lol
i hope they have more plans than using him as a lead blocker because his carrying ability>>>>>his blocking abilty.
your right though, he should be credited with rices success, the dude really had to swallow his pride to take a back seat to ray last year, it sure as hell didnt hold him back though.
He is a smaller Mike Alstott, can't really block all that well, but he is a very good runner. If he can learn to block though... big time star in the making.
