Default St. Louis Rams news 10/30

Tomlinson KOs the Rams

In a lot of ways, it didn't feel like a 14-point loss.

On offense, the Rams matched San Diego yard for yard. But it was almost a treadmill effect.

"It seemed like one of those games where we were racking up yards, but not getting in the end zone," offensive guard Adam Timmerman.

On defense, it was an opposite feeling.

"Those points added up at the end of the day," cornerback Fakhir Brown said. "But really, it didn't seem like they scored that much on us."

Default 14 minus 3 doesn't add up

One thing they say about Scott Linehan of the St. Louis Rams is “good game coach,” meaning his tactical decisions on Sunday afternoons are sound ones.

Maybe not always.

Consider this situation: Linehan's side is getting bounced around by the Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. In the third period, the Rams are behind 21-7 with a fourth-and-6 at the San Diego 16. Linehan summons Jeff Wilkins who supplies a 34-yard field goal.

Default Passing game is slow to get started

Sunday's game at Qualcomm Stadium reached the midway point with the Rams' passing game stuck in neutral.

"We didn't do too much in the first half," quarterback Marc Bulger conceded.

Bulger threw just 11 times in the first 30 minutes, connecting on six for a meager 67 yards. None of those completions landed in the hands of veteran wide receiver Isaac Bruce.

"It's just happens that way sometimes," Bruce said.

Default Tomlinson silences critics

Led by LaDainian Tomlinson's three touchdowns, the San Diego Chargers beat the St. Louis Rams, 38-24, in front of 66,598 at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday and ended local grumbling that the three-time All-Pro running back had "lost a step."

As the Chargers (5-2) have shifted to more of a passing game behind new starter Philip Rivers, Tomlinson has played a less dominant role in Coach Marty Schottenheimer's offense. Before Sunday, Tomlinson had one 100-yard rushing game.

Default Chargers slough off Rams, along with a few doubts

A vibe, difficult to grasp yet palpable, hovered in the air in the midst of large and angry men readying to play a game yesterday afternoon.

In the moments before the Chargers took the field, center Nick Hardwick looked around the locker room and wondered.

“You could feel, kind of, y'know, 'Do we still got it?' ” Hardwick would recall afterward.

Chargers are a good team and the Rams have a ways to go. I expected the score to be what it was. No suprizes in this game.
