Wide receiver Torry Holt said Friday that he has “come to grips” with the prospect that his knee problems are likely to persist as long he plays football for a living.
“So I just take it day-to-day and year-to-year and hopefully put myself in a position where I can start a season and finish a season,” Holt said.
Holt has had surgery on his right knee twice, most recently this past January. He still has pain and swelling if he overdoes it, so he’s taken several Wednesday practices off this season.
“I’m just managing the knee,” he explained. “I took a lot of reps last week ... to get some continuity with Gus (Frerotte) because of the change at the quarterback position. I came out of the game on Sunday a little sore, so I just wanted to be cautious and rest it on Wednesday.”
After practicing Thursday and Friday, Holt said, “Everything is on schedule and I’ll be able to play on Sunday” in Baltimore.
Holt, 31, is in his ninth season. A six-time Pro Bowler, he ranks 20th in NFL history in receiving yards (11,026) and 24th in receptions (740).
