OK, I have a user that is running Office 2003 on Windows XP. When that person double-clicks to execute an Excel file (size does not matter---no jokes on that please ) it will hang for about 3-5 minutes and then finally load.

Now here is the kicker, I can open up the Excel program executable (which loads up right away) and then within that I can open the files as if there is no problem.

So I continue to go through my trouble-shooting progression and I log out of that user's account and log in as administrator and double-click on an Excel file and it loads up right away. So I know that it is a profile issue.

Also I have to add that I came across this exact same problem with the same user before and when I tried to research the problem I could not get a solution from Microsoft that would alleviate this issue, so I backed up his profile to a central location, then deleted the profile on the machine, recreated his profile and transferred any sensitive data that he needed from the central location. That seemed to work and I thought everything was chill up until about 2 weeks later (NOW). Same crappy *** problem, different timeline stop on my humanly travels to death.

I have not tried that, but I would not think that that would matter especially since under the administrator profile I can open the files right up without the workaround. Also since creating a whole new profile for him and copying over those same files it still (after two weeks mind you) does not work for him. Hell I even tried a file on a mapped drive for him and still no go.

I know there are some switches to open up the office products in "safe mode" for lack of a better term. Try opening excel using the following command: excel /CLEAN

that'll just open it up without any custom settings the user has set
