yeah it seems like a better idea to install the OS clean, I just dont feel like re-installing all the other software I've got on here

the blue screens seemed to be directly related to the hard drive being on a different motherboard before, because I'd wipe them clean and re-instal windows on them and theyd be fine.

And Western Digital didnt really give me anything at all, I ordered this online(320 GB @ $129 ), and all I got was a reciept and promotional **** about their accessories online they didnt even send a cable

If you're booting to a hard drive that already has Windows installed from another system, you're going to get blue screens. You'll want to either boot into safe mode and uninstall the motherboard drivers (less effective method) or clean install (for best stability). With improper motherboard drivers, lots of functions will cause problems, even common ones such as accessing the RAM, transfering to the hard drives, etc.

If you bought it online for that price, it is most likely an OEM buy, meaning it's just the drive, not a retail package, which would include the box, manual, cable and any software utilities they provide.

Just throw it in and install. Its a standard device, unlike pre ATAPI-C standards.

The only trouble you might have is if your OS doesnt recognize all of the space, so you'll need to use a newer copy of the install, or for windows, slipstream SP2 to your existing copy and burn a new copy.

As long as the jumpers are okay, your straight.

And doing a direct copy will be flawless, unless you are doing windows, then you will need to "ghost" the OS portion of the original.

And if the board doesnt detect the drives full capacity, then you should go to the manufacturers website and download the latest bios.

If you run into any trouble, just throw it into the original configuration, and post the problems, I'll walk you through whatever.

(been working on computers of all sorts for longer than the average age of the forum.) I think I can manage.
