i have a linksys router, and its the suck. the main comp (where the router is plugged on and everything) works perfect, but the internet connection of the other comp keeps crashing. most of the time you can simply do repair and it fixes that ****, but sometimes you have to unplug everything for like 2 minutes.
edit: when you have huge downloads/transfers, the connection crashes. plus, it makes you lag a little bit if you play ps2 online.
thats a real bargain, but I'm looking for optimized speed and dont care about much else and it doesnt seem like the router/setup for me. I've got a linksys modem and im gonna try and get a linksys router because it seems like you benefit a little from having the same product, and I'm willing to go the extra $40 or whatever for optimum performance

Whatever wireless product you purchase the common sense things I would do are:
1: disable SSID broadcast .
2: change the default SSID broadcast to something else, but not specific to you, your business, or identity.
3: enable a strong 128-bit WEP key.
4: block all MAC addresses from associating with your access point except those you want to allow.
This is where I would start.....

my last router really ate away at my bandwidth, and the only two things attatched were my PC and my PS2, and i'm not superman here, I dont play the PS2 and use the computer at the same time, and the PC would be slow even when the PS2 was off.

When you're gaming you have to open a port in your firewall. That can let anyone from the outside access your PS2 and PC. They can then use your bandwidth against you for devious purposes and you wouldnt even know. It's very common.

and my last question, how do I exactly get my PS2, or at that Xbox or any other gaming console, connected to the internet through the wireless router? I guess I might have to get a new network adaptor for the console?
