To make a long story for you short, I got a new Belkin N1 router to replace my piece of crap Linksys router. The Belkin router works fine with all the other wireless things in my house EXCEPT the XBOX 360 wireless adapter. I don't know why. Everything had been working fine and dandy before, and I downloaded large files and played the Halo 3 demo and whatnot with no issues at all. But one day, I guess when I disconnected my Linksys router for good (it had been sort of daisy-chained to the Belkin router) it just up and stopped working. So I call up Microsoft and they say Belkin is not on their compatibility list... fine, whatever. He said if I could figure it out there were 3 ports I had to open but he wasn't allowed to tell me how because he'd get in trouble.

So the shortest version of this story is how do I open up ports on my router?

Thats weird, i had a 54g belkin router and it worked fine with my 360 and i never had to open any ports on the routers. I did have to manually assign the the address on the 360, but nothing about the ports

Have you tried that yet?

Well I went and enabled the UPnP option the router has that comes disabled by default. So from what I understand it lets devices that need ports open tell the router which ones to open. After a couple of minutes it started working and it worked all of last night and this morning before work when I checked it. Hopefully it stays stable and isn't erratic.
