I have a friend who has a wholesale price connection for parts and I'm looking to spend somewhere in the ballpark of $1200. I talked to Nixon who recommended the following. Re the motherboard. Recommended was an Asus with 600 series north bridge. Review what I have listed and give me a recommendation on the mobo?
1. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

Good -- but be wary that Intel's new 45nm Quad-cores are just around the corner.

Good, but you have no use for PC28500. You could save some money and get the XMS2 PC6400.

Excellent choice.

Solid. Sound Blaster sucks unless you hack the card with special drivers- I know from experience.

Antec P180 or P182 if you're looking for a more high-end case. Although they're almost twice as much ($130)
Heatsink: I recommend the Thermaltake Big Typhoon or Scythe Ninja, although the stock Intel is useable as well.
Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-P35
or the older GA-P965-DS3 (the best value motherboard to come out in the past year)
