Bucs re-sign T Kenyatta Walker

March 24, 2006
TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday re-signed starting right tackle Kenyatta Walker.

Terms were not disclosed.

Walker, 27, started all 16 games last season and has played in 72 games since being selected 14th overall by the Bucs in the 2001 draft.

"Kenyatta started every game for us last year and helped us make the playoffs," coach Jon Gruden said. "We made great strides in offense last season and it was our goal to keep every one on board so we could continue that improvement."

Last season, Walker was a member of an offensive line that started all 16 games together for the first time in franchise history. He also helped lead the way for rookie Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, who rushed for 1,178 yards and six touchdowns.

That's a good move for them, and they are another team that needs O-line help.

He was a free agent, and the Buccs could not run the right side of the offense last season. It came down to the Buccs not wanting to overpay for Fabini, or Ashworth. Walker was still available with only the Falcon show any interest in him. His new cap friendly deal, and the familiarity with Jon's offense made this a good signing. Other wise his run blocking skills are below average, and his pass blocking skills are only slightly better. He is young, and maybe the lack of interest in him this offseason will change his attitude for the better.
