Default McCown injured in OTA's

News worthy because of the lack of confidence in Simms by some Buccs fans. Word out of One Buc Place is McCown has taken a really good grasp of Gruden's system, and has progressed lightyears ahead of this time last season. Also note worthy because Will Allen was on ESPN's hot list last night and said McCown tore his ACL. Unfortunately, no word out of OBP.

According to multiple sources, Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup quarterback Luke McCown suffered a knee injury during Wednesday’s OTA (organized team activity) drills and was held out of Thursday’s OTA session.

Full details are not known at this point, but McCown was not touched during the play in which he hurt his knee. He was simply running, made a cut and went down. The sources PewterReport.com contacted did not even know exactly which knee McCown hurt as he was able to walk off the field under his own power after the injury, and did not think the injury was too severe.

PewterReport.com reporters witnessed McCown walking without the aid of crutches after Thursday’s OTA practice and did not know of the injury he had suffered on Wednesday at that time. His status for next week's three-day mandatory mini-camp is unknown at this time.

If McCown’s injury winds up being more severe than the sources PewterReport.com had contacted originally thought, that would be disastrous news for the Buccaneers, who are already young and inexperienced at the quarterback position with starter Chris Simms having only 12 NFL starts on his resume` and third-string quarterback Tim Rattay only having 16 career starts. The Bucs also added rookie quarterback Bruce Gradkowski in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Early reports from offseason workouts spoke of McCown looking much more comfortable in Jon Gruden’s offense, and some sources told PewterReport.com that McCown was the favorite to hang on to the number two quarterback position behind Simms heading into training camp.

McCown is ahead of Rattay on the depth chart, and Rattay could be a cap casualty.

i just don't see anything in mccown, I think rattay should be the backup, but he does make too much money to be a third stringer

* BREAKING NEWS: McCown Tears ACL
-----------------------------------------------------
TAMPA - Bucs backup quarterback Luke McCown has a partially torn ACL in his right knee and is scheduled for surgery this week.

McCown sustained the injury during workouts last week and did not participate in Tuesday's minicamp practices.

The Bucs do not believe McCown will miss the entire season, but Coach Jon Gruden said the team would pursue a quarterback with NFL experience. McCown, for whom the Bucs traded a sixth-round pick to Cleveland in 2005, had been expected to enter this season as starter Chris Simms" top backup.

I went to LA Tech at the same time as Tim and saw some Luke. Tim had a better understanding of the offense which was more wide open when he played, but Luke had more phsical skills. One big knock I have on Tim is that he can not seem to stay healty.
