Bucs Feeling Good About QB Fiedler

By ROY CUMMINGS The Tampa Tribune

Published: Jun 30, 2006

TAMPA - The list of available quarterbacks is not a very long one this time of year. It's not a real impressive one, either.

It's made up mostly of players such as the ever-inconsistent Kerry Collins, the always-forgettable Shane Matthews and an aging Tommy Maddox. It's no wonder, then, that the Bucs were feeling pretty good Thursday after plucking Jay Fiedler off that list and signing him to a one-year contract.

Fiedler is aging, too. He's 34, his hair is starting to gray and he's still rehabilitating a shoulder injury that forced him to give up on the 2005 season after just three games. But he's someone the Bucs have had their eye on for more than a year.

I think that Jay Fiedler will be a solid backup... He played decent when he was in Miami... Then I dont know what happened to him after that...

I have a friend who is a Phins fan, and i used to bust his balls all the time about how Fiedler sucked. He told me that while the team hadn't accomplished much, when Jay was under center they won. It wasn't until that conversation and my subsequent research did I realize just how successful Fiedler has been. Apparently his toughest opponent is the injury list.
