Buccaneers | Addition of Fiedler may lead to release of Rattay
Fri, 30 Jun 2006 09:22:12 -0700

Stephen F. Holder, of the St. Petersburg Times, reports with the addition of QB Jay Fiedler, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may decide to release QB Tim Rattay before the season and save $1.25 million against the salary cap. Even without Rattay, the team would still have a No. 3 option at quarterback with rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski, who has made a good impression on the coaching staff so far.

Yeah, seems like an obvious move to me. Any guesses on where, if anywhere, Rattay can play next?

giants as they were courting fiedler as well, I am kind of shocked by this as rattay is not bad if any worse than fiedler and he is younger and isn't coming off an injury.

While Buccs are high on Gradkowski, the truth of the matter is, he's a rookie 6th round pick. Until I see or hear what he's made of when the bullets are flying for real in TC, then I'll have a little more faith in him. Fiedler still hasn't been cleared to throw the football yet. Beofre McCown's injury, I'd be right there with you, but I'm not so sure Rattay will be going anywhere anytime too soon.

I think the optimal scenario looks like this. You keep Ratty as your second as Feidler is not healthy enough to even begin camp. Jay becomes your three and continues to mind. Grads goes to the PS. When tears of McCown comes back then you make a descision on Jay and Rattay as Jay should be healthy by then. I think JG will find a way to some how pull that off. While they are high on Grads he's still a rookie in a very tough offense to learn...

quote from gruden

" I really am impressed with the nature in which he’s learned this offense. It’s a very verbal system, a lot to say and a lot to see and a lot to do. But in a short time I’ve seen huge leaps and gains in his performance."

I agree. While Grads has had some serious production at the college ranks, let's face it...it was college. I'm pulling for the kid, but I think a lot of Buccs fans are expecting this kid to walk right in and complete 70% of his passes in the Pro's because he did for 2 years at Toledo. I'm not very adept as far as college footbal goes, so I'm not sure of the type of talent that was in place trying to stop Grads from completing 70% of his passes. In other words, i question his opponents.
