Is it safe to say that Chris Simms, the son of former New York Giant Phil Simms has finally come into his own? Well, the answer to that is probably a yes because after three seasons in the NFL, the young left hander out of Texas will be entering next season as the unopposed starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Simms began to appear out of his father's shadow when he came in for an injured Brian Griese during week six of last season's action. From that moment, Simms has solidified his case to remain Tampa's starter for the future. He consistently made smart plays on offense and orchestrated a 7-4 record last year that helped to lead the Bucs to an NFC South championship and a date in the postseason.
"I'm excited to be going into the season as the starter and going full stride," said Simms. "Last year I went six or seven weeks getting very minimal amounts of reps during practice so it took me a little while to get my rhythm back and get into playing form."
