The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent Thursday reporting to Celebration Hotel for the start of training camp. The Bucs had until 6:00 p.m. to sign their four unsigned draft picks – guard Davin Joseph (first round), tackle Jeremy Trueblood (second round), wide receiver Maurice Stovall (third round) and tight end T.J. Williams (sixth round) to avoid any holdouts.
The Bucs signed Trueblood on Thursday morning, but the deals for Joseph and Stovall took longer and were completed by Thursday evening.
Williams, who suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon during Tampa Bay’s mandatory mini-camp in late-June, has not signed his rookie contract yet, and the team will place him on injured reserve immediately after he inks his rookie contract.
Williams might not be the only Bucs player that doesn’t take the field with the rest of his teammates for the Bucs' first training camp practice on Friday morning. Tampa Bay’s team doctors spent Thursday evening completing physicals for several players, including quarterbacks Jay Fiedler and Luke McCown.
Bucs head coach Jon Gruden suggested Thursday that Fiedler, who is coming off offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder, and/or McCown, who suffered a partially torn ACL in June, could start training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
