Default Buccs draft pick signing updates.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed their first 2006 draft pick Wednesday, inking seventh-round selection, tight end Tim Massaquoi, to his rookie contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-4, 248-pound Massaquoi entered the league as the Bucs’ third and final seventh-round pick (244th overall) in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Massaquoi played collegiately at Michigan and started 29 of the 47 games he played in. He caught 46 career passes for 489 yards and two touchdowns.

In order to make room for Massaquoi on their offseason roster, the Bucs released TE/long snapper Boone Stutz.

The Bucs are currently in negotiations with their remaining nine draft picks and plan to ink them to deals before the team reports to training camp on July 27.

Default Buccs closing in on Joseph.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen revealed that the team is closing in on signing first-round draft pick Davin Joseph during a two-hour town hall meeting with a select group of Buccaneers fans on Wednesday night at Raymond James Stadium.

Allen said that he is supposed to meet with Ben Dogra, the agent for Joseph, a former guard at the University of Oklahoma, on Tuesday – perhaps in Tampa. Allen said that he and Dogra, who represented the Bucs’ 2005 first-round pick, running back Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, met last year in St. Louis just prior to training camp to negotiate that deal.

The Buccaneers report to camp in Celebration, Fla. on Thursday, July 27. The first practice will be held on Friday, July 28. Allen, who has never had a rookie hold out as the general manager of the Buccaneers, signed tight end Tim Massaquoi, one of the team’s 10 2006 draft picks, earlier in the day.

Bucs' Talks with No. 1 Pick Heat Up
Jul 20 - face-to-face meeting between the Bucs and the agent for Davin Joseph has been set up in an effort to complete a deal so the first-round draft pick will be at training camp on time. General Manager Bruce Allen is scheduled to meet Tuesday with the offensive lineman's agent, Ben Dogra, at a site to be determined. Last year the two met in St. Louis, where they hammered out the terms for running back Cadillac Williams. The Bucs report to training camp July 27. "The players want to be there on time," said Allen, who led a "Football 101" discussion with more than 100 Bucs fans at Raymond James Stadium on Wednesday night. "It's just dividing up the pie so everybody's happy. .

Default Jenkins and Phinisee signed

Jul 21, 2006 -

A busy Friday at One Buccaneer Place should make next week just a bit easier for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ player personnel department.

With training camp set to begin next Thursday, July 27, General Manager Bruce Allen and his staff are working to get the team’s 10-player draft class signed in time for the reporting deadline. As usual, much of that work will be completed in the last few days before camp; however, the list will be down to seven players when that hectic week begins.

On Friday, the Buccaneers announced the signings of two of those 10 draftees: fifth-round defensive end Julian Jenkins and seventh-round cornerback Justin Phinisee. Seventh-round tight end Tim Massaquoi got the ball rolling on Wednesday when he became the first of his draft class to ink a contract.
