Unlike you I watched it all..... I didn't go do a search for my post.... I watched the steal curtain play during the 70's when teams often ran more than they passed. The steelers were my favoite AFC team. what I remember about the them most was the "steel curtain" of L.C. Greenwood, Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes and Dwight White... all D lineman... not disputing the fact that Carson "created" the cover 2... just IMO and memory the Giants made it more famous because they played it almost exclusively and more "known for it" as more and more teams started adding 3 and 4 WR packages in the 80's...

Tony G and Monte brought it back into the lime light in the late 90's....

and I forgot about the Bucs 10 win season in 79 when they were shut out at home by the 9-7 Vince Ferragamo / Pat Haden Rams....

the bucs didn't win more than 10 games again for almost 20 years...
[/b]
Glad you are old enough to semi-recall what you saw back then. As for looking it up you may want to try that next time-- it may improve your accuracy. But, Carson is the one who created the cover 2 and made it famous. Just because you only remember Pitt's front four from that era doesn't mean their LB and Secondary corp wasn't just as good. The Steel Curtain dominated all facets of the game-- run and pass. And I dont have to be old to know it -- there is a such thing as a DVD player and NFL Films presents with an entire library on the Steel Curtain.

And I never disputed the fact the Giants had success with a system based on Carson's but to say the Giant's cover 2 defense was more infamous than the Curtain of the 70's is laughable.

Just to correct it is Tony "D" not G. And he made his version of the cover 2 famous again in the mid 90's (1996) not late 90's when he elevated a team from the gutter that had 13 losing seasons not 20 as you would like to make it seem-- you also left out that Tampa in those early years went on 3 playoff runs. Tampa had its problems due to a cheap *** owner and once the big TV revenue sharing deals of the early and mid 80's happended, Culverhouse realized he could pocket loads of money and never ever have to put a winning product on the field- so he didn't. Amazing the Glazers bought the team and it has been one of the most successful franchises in the league since. But it's been that much sweeter living through all those lean years.

Not like the Skins haven't had the same type of lean years. Hell your team went from 1946-1969 with ony 2 winning seasons and no 10 win seasons. Not to mention in the modern era of football your team has 3 winning seasons in the past 13 years.

I find it funny you call the Tampa Fans on this board *******s yet you are the one trolling a Buc thread on a CB's contract and taking pot shots at the term the "Tampa 2" which is what Tampa's defense is referred to by the professionals. If thats not the pot calling the kettle black. At least do your homework and maybe us ******* Tampa fans would stop shoving your foot back in your mouth.

yet again you totally missed the point - flew right over you're head - my post was from memories of what was actually happening and being hyped at the time -- i.e. the steel curtain and the giants cover 2 - not a search of what the history books say... much like you kids lived the 90's and know what the media "hypes" like the phrase "Tampa 2" I lived the phrase steel curtain and the the giants cover 2 era's and remember what was the most hyped back then...

and I almost always post in the Tampa threads because I have owned a home in the area since 91, have lots of friends who are huge fans, my company is a huge sponser and I go to game every year and was big fan of Dungy.... the "P" was typo

"the Tampa 2"

you're probably too young to know it, but Parcells and Belichick made the COVER 2 famous with the NYG's long before Tampa was even a real NFL team....
[/b]

Didn't miss the point at all-- you were taking a pot shot-- why else would you post the rolly eyed icon. And say before Tampa was a real team. Do you always take pot shots at teams you financially support and exert effort to watch by traveling great distances. And the "G" was a typo for "D" not P.

I simply cleaned up your posts of all the errors and misinformation.

As for us kids-- some of us kids were sitting in the Old Sombrero since 1978 as kids--- Myself included. But hey keep referring to me as a kid. My own kids keep telling me I am old, but hey I am not as old as you-- When Noll hired Carson I wasn't even conceived.

As for you owning a home in this area-- and watching games-- and supporting the Bucs financially-- by all means keep the green flowing into my area.

it wasn't meant to be a big a pop shot as it seems to have become, which is my fault for going down the road of pissin in the wind like you and T21 do often. As an old fart I've never liked the "tampa @" reference because it makes it sound like they invented it, but really NBD....

BTW - I don't spend my money -- my company has a suite and if I travel with them they pay all the expenses... I've met more Tampa players and coaches than any other team and they are all really cool to meet and see in person...

Peace

Sure you do-- you pay your taxes on the property you own and in recent years that has increased quite a bit unless of course you homestead here and are saved by the county cap. So keep the check coming--I have nothing against folks who support the area I live in.

I took it as a pot shot with the icon-- I still have a feeling that was your intention, especially since it was my post you quoted and you have already called me an ******* and a retard in these forums. But if that wasn't your intention-- I misread it.

BTW thats a sweet perk your company offers-- I still cant convince my owners to get a suite for Ray Jay-- All i get is the perk of half a suite for the Rays which is better than most and while I enjoy baseball it sure has nothing on football.

The sweat part about my house outside of Tampa is that I paid $115K in 91 and now is worth over 600K - I gladly pay my taxes -- I do homestead in FL because my oldest son was going to school there and we seemed to live there more in the winter months -- it's about a 60/40 split between FL and the Noth GA mountains for us...

Could you imagine the taxes if you weren't homesteaded and didn't have the luxury of the cap savings since it is your main-- Florida went nuts from 2000-2005. I bought the home we are in and will raise the kids in 4 years ago at 225K and it has tripled it's value. Man if I didnt have that 3% cap on taxes I would be dead in the water as if homeowners and hurricane hasn't been deadly enough since it has gone from 1100 to 4100 in 2.5 years and I am not in an evac zone. Although if anything Cat 4 or bigger hit the mouth of the Tampa Bay-- Pinellas would be a memory anyway as would my home. Oh well thats the price we pay for living in paradise year round.
