Titans sign former Steelers safety Chris Hope

March 15, 2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans agreed to a six-year contract with free-agent safety Chris Hope on Wednesday.

Hope started the last 32 regular-season games for Pittsburgh, including every game in the team's run to the Super Bowl. He had a career-high three interceptions last season.

"Pittsburgh was a great place," he said at a news conference. "I was limited to just play in the middle of the field, but I have the ability to play either safety."

Earlier this week he visited Miami, and planned to go to San Francisco to meet with the 49ers, but decided against it after meeting with Titans general manager Floyd Reese.

"I felt Tennessee was my new home," Hope said.

Hope was the fourth free agent signed by the Titans this week, joining linebacker David Thornton, wide receiver David Givens and center Kevin Mawae.

"Again, I think (he's) an example of what we've been looking for," Reese said.

That was a great pickup by the Titans, and a loss for Pitt. Titans should make their division more competitive next season.

I agree Poppa, but what is with all of these teams that apparently have no cap room making moves like this? The Redskins and the Titans from what I heard were two of the most cap strapped teams and have among the 2 most active, very strange.

All in all, I like the move and their D is really coming together nicely.

the Titans are another team that have done a great job of filling a bunch of holes with big talent.

it's called prorating the signing bonus and screwing yourself in the future royally.
