Titans still talking with Curtis

The Tennessee Titans’ negotiations with free agent receiver Kevin Curtis apparently took a back seat to civic responsibilities on Wednesday.
Curtis was back home in Salt Lake City, apparently serving jury duty, but was likely to talk to Coach Jeff Fisher, who is attending the NFL competition committee meetings, at some point on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Titans lost defensive tackle Robaire Smith to the Cleveland Browns.
Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt and Smith’s agent Michael Harrison had spoken on Monday and Tuesday, but remained far apart in terms of contract talks.
Smith then agreed to a four-year deal with the Browns. Terms were not immediately available.
It marks the second time Smith has departed the Titans. Originally a sixth-round pick of Tennessee in 2000, he left as a free agent for the Houston Texans in 2004 and came back to Tennessee this past season after the Texans released him.
As for Curtis, Reinfeldt has continued to negotiate with agents Bruce and Ryan Tollner, and the Titans GM acknowledged that Curtis’ visit to Nashville was probably a positive in the talks.
“Kevin really liked the city of Nashville on his visit, and I have talked to his agents, so we’ll see where it goes,” Reinfeldt said.
Reinfeldt added that not having a wide receivers coach in place as yet shouldn’t negatively impact their pursuit of Curtis.
