Titans looking at Collins
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9447715
The Titans are still talking about possibly signing veteran quarterback Kerry Collins. When Steve McNair is finally gone, and he will be, the Titans will be left with Billy Volek and first-round pick Vince Young as their top two quarterbacks. Good luck winning with those two. That's why the Titans are still considering Collins, and the word is Collins is open to playing in Tennessee because it's close to his home in North Carolina.
If the Titans sign Collins, he gives them a legitimate starter. Volek is more of a backup type, despite what many would want you to believe, and Young is a ways away from being ready to play. Much of the coaching staff, including Jeff Fisher, has just one year left on their contacts. Fisher does have an option on his, but at a high price. That means this staff either has to win now or the work it is doing to prepare Young will be for the next coaching staff. Considering the Titans spent money on veteran free agents like David Givens, David Thornton and Chris Hope, it makes no sense to have a wasted season from the quarterback position. The Titans should definitely find a way to get Collins signed.

I think I might take Volek over Collins. Clearly this is a rebuilding year for them. They'll be building a team that can make a solid run in 3-4 years. They already know they won't have a winning record, and at that, Young may even be starting by the end of the season. Why spend money on another mediocre QB? It doesn't matter if Volek can be great, because either way he won't be keeping the job.

Yeh but from a team perspective you dont think negative and believe you are going to have a losing season. I think Collins will provide depth in case Volek gets hurt so I like the move.

this is my take too, this way if volek gets hurt, they won't have to rush vince in and not have to play an unproven guy ahead of him.

They have to do something. No one wants to admit that they have a poor team, but reality must set in. Tennessee is 3 years away from challenging. If you throw Young into the fire now, it will be a disaster. Scramblers have a limited shelf life going in. Why waste a year, and risk injury to your alleged star of the future now? The Titans had a poor draft. They will need more help next year. Save your future and just get past this season realatively healthy.

i agree with the fact that the titans are a couple of years away from be contenders but u better make sure you know wut ur talking about when u come out with a statemant such as the titans had a poor draft...2 out of the 5 heisman finalist were drafted by the titans with vince young and lendale white...leandale white is a big and powerful back and recently set a school record at USC for most rushing tds...so im not sure where u came up with the fact that they had a poor draft...i think it would a great idea for the titans to sign a veteran like kerry collins who can get it done if volek gets hurt...

he is saying that they had a poor draft because they had two picks on the first day and really only came away with one real need filled. they didn't seem to fill some of the kep holes on thier team, that is where he came up with that.

That is correct. I also feel that they took the wrong QB. Scramblers are proven losers in the NFL. Can you name all of the "scramblers" that have won Superbowls? Let's see. Culpepper, no. McNabb, no. Vick, no. Brooks, no. Tarkington, no. Now I know there has to be one out there, but I just can't seem to think of his name. Young is in a worse position because he is mentally challenged and is not the greatest passer of all times. Now they take White in Round 2. He is a good back, if they can keep his head on his shoulders and he doesn't go too goofy on them. No round 3 pick. No offensive linemen picked in day 1. That is why Tennessee had a poor draft.

yes i agree with that...but they jus signed 6 time pro bowler, center, kevin mawae to fill some of the gaps...and if it was my choice i wouldnt have taken young him either but i do think he has a great upside in the future and thats why collins would be a great addition b/c young defintly needs some time to learn the style of offense...

I know they got Mawae and Young isnt the right choice. But it is what it is. He is talking about the Titans having a bad draft and from a certain perspective it was. I think Young was the wrong choice, but I like the LenDale. The Titans needed to grab a ILB but instead they took a couple of OLB's. SO he is just arguing from the point that the Titans had a bad draft not that Kevin Mawae was a good addition. In my mind the Titans dindnt have a good draft either. But it has some pontential to it.
