'Pacman' too busy for DeKalb cops | ajc.com
excerpt:
It looks as if DeKalb County police will have to take a number in questioning suspended NFL star Adam "Pacman" Jones about a recent early morning shooting on Atlanta's southside that left a man injured.
Authorities say they are working out the details with Manny Arora, his lawyer, on when Jones will come in and share what he knows about those accused of firing at a former police officer and his nephew on Moreland Avenue at I-285. Arora has said the College Park native plans to cooperate with police.
Jones, a Tennessee Titan cornerback now facing felony charges in Las Vegas in connection with a strip club fracus during NBA All-Star Weekend, isn't a suspect in the case. But DeKalb police believe members of his entourage who were reportedly with him at the nearby Club Blaze strip club may have been involved.
No charges have been filed in the investigation.
"What we've heard [from his lawyer] is that he is in Tennessee on the practice field, so we're trying to coordinate when he would come back to Atlanta," said Keisha Williams, a DeKalb police spokeswoman.
Darian Haygood, one of the shooting victims, alleges in a police report that he and members of Jones' entourage exchanged gunfire after men riding in two separate cars pulled along side his vehicle at a stop light on northbound Moreland Avenue, not far from Club Blaze, and began shooting. Haygood claims they fired first.
Haygood, 34, told police the shooting came shortly after he and Jones argued at the strip club. Jones, Haygood said, got angry after he asked a woman there for a dance.
Police said later they weren't sure whether the woman was a dancer at the club or a member of Jones' entourage.
During the exchange, Jones allegedly said, "Y'all don't know me. I'll kill all y'all in here." Haygood, who said he went to the club to pick up his nephew, said they noticed members following them as they tried to leave. Haygood reported his concern to an off-duty Clayton County deputy working as a security guard at the club.
The deputy asked Jones and his entourage to leave after hearing the Westlake High graduate threatened to retrieve a gun from his car, according to a police report.
Jones, 23, pulled off in a black Cadillac Escalade; an entourage member mentioned in the report as "Slugga" left in a black Pontiac Grand Prix; and another unidentified man road off in green Dodge Charger.
Haygood, who left with his nephew shortly afterward, alleges the shots were fired from the Grand Prix and Dodge Charger. His nephew suffered minor injuries from plastic shrapnel.
Police say the Escalade wasn't seen at the location of the shooting.
This is the second shooting investigation Jones' name has been connected with this year.
Las Vegas authorities have issued arrest warrants for Jones and two other suspects related to a strip club melee that preceded a triple shooting outside the club in February, according to The Associated Press. A bar employee was left paralyzed and two others with minor injuries.
