Through two preseason games the Titans run defense has been pretty solid, allowing just 2.5 yards a carry in the first half.

Both opponents were without their featured backs — Clinton Portis didn't play for the Redskins and Laurence Maroney didn't play for the Patriots.


As the Titans assess their run defense going forward they may explore adding defensive tackle Corey Simon, who visited on Monday.

The former Eagle and Colt might qualify as a roster upgrade if the Titans ultimately determine he's healthy and cost-effective.

"We had him in for a physical and we worked Corey out and he seemed to be in good shape," Coach Jeff Fisher said.

The Colts terminated Simon's contract on Aug. 4, a divorce clouded by his health troubles. The Colts signed Simon to a five-year, $30 million contract in 2005.

He did not play last season, when the Colts won the Super Bowl, because of a knee injury and an undisclosed illness. He turned 30 in March.

The Titans are looking for help at defensive end opposite Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Free agent Simeon Rice visited and took a physical early in training camp but nothing materialized.

The Broncos approached the Titans and several other teams about Gerard Warren, but Tennessee wasn't especially interested and Warren was dealt to the Raiders.
