Default Simon takes field with Titans

Simon takes field with Titans - Nashville, Tennessee - Tuesday, 08/28/07 - Tennessean.com

Former Colts defensive lineman Corey Simon was on the practice field at Baptist Sports Park today after agreeing to terms with the Titans.

Simon flew to Nashville early today and finalized his one-year deal before suiting up in No. 96.

He worked with strength and conditioning coach Steve Watterson before joining his new teammates. He took at least one snap in one-on-one drills against guard Leroy Harris.

"Corey brings a combination of run-stuffing size and pass rushing ability to the defensive tackle position," said Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt. "Prior to last season, he has been a consistent and productive player who contributed to playoff teams and we are excited to see him get a second chance here with the Titans to prove he still has that ability."

Simon, who visited with Titans officials last week, should help bolster a run defense that ranked 30th in the NFL last season, giving up almost 145 yards per game.

The Colts signed Simon to a five-year, $30 million contract in 2005. They terminated the contract on Aug. 4, in part due to Simon's health issues. He did not play last season because of a knee injury and an undisclosed illness.

In 91 regular season and 13 postseason games, Simon has 351 tackles and 33 sacks. A sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2000, he was a Pro Bowl selection in 2003.

The 6-foot-2, 320-pounder spent the 2005-06 campaigns with the Colts after five seasons with the Eagles.

To make room for Simon on the roster, the Titans released former Brentwood Academy kicker John Vaughn.

Default

he is a fat slob that will help their defense because of his fatness taking up space and blockers.
