Who's under center is up in air for Titans
Young may start; Volek may walk; Collins will play

Titans rookie quarterback Vince Young is open to the possibility of trying something crazy if he scores a touchdown on Friday in Green Bay.
He didn’t rule out doing the Lambeau Leap, a move usually reserved for Packers.
"I might,’’ Young said with a smile. “Just to play.’’
There are many possibilities for the Titans heading into the preseason finale, particularly at quarterback.
Young could get his first NFL start, a disgruntled Billy Volek might not even make the trip to Wisconsin, and Kerry Collins will make his debut for his new team.
Volek, who started the first three preseason games, saw his work with the first-team offense limited again on Wednesday. With increased uncertainty surrounding his status, there are indications he may not see action Friday even if he travels with the team.
Volek asked to be traded not long after Collins signed with the Titans on Monday, and is being shopped around the league. Volek said he had no comment based on advice from his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The agent also declined comment Wednesday.
Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said he has spoken to Volek and Rosenhaus, but declined to divulge specifics of those conversations. He said trade talks are normal at this time of year.
“Probably today I’ve had 15 to 20 phone calls with different teams about one or more different people,’’ he said.
Reese said he’s not surprised by Volek’s reaction to the Collins signing — hinting about not going to Green Bay — but said he shouldn’t take the move personally.
“The hard part about any of these positions, especially the high-profile positions, is when something like this happens immediately you want to take it as a slap in the face and some kind of disrespect when it is not meant that way,’’ Reese said.
“From our standpoint we were looking at three quarterbacks with a grand total of (11) starts. And you look at that and think, ‘Maybe we do need some veteran experience and maybe we do need somebody that has been through the battles a bit.’ And that is where Kerry comes in.’’
Collins said he’s getting more comfortable with the offense. All signs still point to him starting the regular season opener on Sept. 10 against the Jets, barring any major setbacks.
For now, Coach Jeff Fisher said he expects Collins to be absorbing information up to Friday’s kickoff in Green Bay. Collins hasn’t played there since the 1996 NFC Championship Game, when his Panthers lost to the Packers.
“I think it will be a little bit warmer Friday afternoon than it was when I played there the last time. It was about 4 degrees with 20 miles per hour winds,” Collins said. “But I am excited to get out there and see where I am at.”
Yet while Collins will see action at Green Bay, it’s beginning to look like Young will start.
Fisher, who has said Young might start a preseason game, wouldn’t commit to that on Wednesday even after the rookie’s workload was increased.
“He’ll play,’’ Fisher said. “He’ll probably play about the same playing time he’s had the past couple of weeks.’’
Young wants to end the preseason on a positive note. In three games he’s 21-of-40 passing for 277 yards.
“I just want to get more comfortable in the offense for one and get the ball out quicker,’’ Young said. “A rookie always wants to … get in with the first team guys and see how you handle different things, earning those guys’ respect in the huddle. I am excited about playing.’’
