Argos Jonathan Brown & Dominique Dorsey Named CFL Players of the Week
The Toronto Argonauts would like to congratulate DE Jonathan Brown and RB/KR Dominique Dorsey on being named CFL Defensive Player of the Week and CFL Special Teams Player of the Week respectively. Both of these players represented the East in these categories at the 2007 CFL Player Awards and are continuing their strong play in 2008.
This is the first time Brown has been named CFL Defensive Player of the Week and the third time in his career that he has earned a weekly award; he was named CFL Lineman of the Week in 2004 and 2005.
This award marks the second time this season, and the sixth time in 20 games as an Argo, that Dorsey has been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
Brown played one of the best games of his career last Friday night against Winnipeg. He matched the second-highest single-game total of his career with three sacks, turned in 3 DT and forced a fumble midway through the third quarter that forced the Bombers to punt. The 2007 East Division Most Outstanding Defensive Player is now second in the CFL in sacks (5) and his 45 sacks in 76 games make him the second-most prolific sack-master in club history, now ahead of Argos legend Harold Hallman (44).
Besides putting together the best punt return game of his CFL career (6 returns for 142 yards, LG 94, 1TD), Dorsey also added 3 kickoffs for 99 yards (33.0 yds/return) all against Winnipeg. He scored the Argos' only touchdown, his fourth kick return touchdown in Double Blue on the longest punt return of his career, and generally gave Toronto's offence excellent field position throughout the contest. Dorsey is currently on pace to turn in the third-highest single-season combined yards total in CFL history (ahead of Corey Holmes' 3,455 in 2005).
The Argos take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night at Ivor Wynne Stadium but fans can see the Argos in action next at Rogers Centre against division rivals the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, August 15 at 7:30 p.m. Don't be late for the Nissan Tailgate Party on Bremner St. starting at 5:00 p.m.
