Default Campell learning a new system, again

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200....ap/index.html
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Playing with an established starting quarterback and a veteran backup already familiar with the new offensive system, the Washington Redskins have Jason Campbell pouring over yet another new playbook.

As he took snaps Saturday at the team's minicamp, the second-year quarterback is learning the system of new offensive coordinator Al Saunders, which will be Campbell's sixth system in six years, dating back to his days at the University of Auburn. To make up for the lack of continuity in systems, Saunders is slowly bringing last year's first-round pick up to speed slowly because Campbell didn't play a down last season.

"There's no consistency in his past, and so what we're trying to do with him is build a very, very strong foundation so that he can continue to grow as a quarterback, Saunders said. "He's a great athlete. He's a willing worker, but he needs a real strong foundation."

Campbell wonders aloud what it might have been like to have just had one system all these years, but says having to continually adjust might be helpful in terms of picking up yet another new system.

"I might never know what I could have been if I had stayed in one system as a quarterback," said Campbell. "It's different when you are not thinking and you are just playing, because you know everything and everything comes natural to you."

While Campbell is expected to get a heavier workload in the offseason, Saunders likes the combination of quarterbacks he has.

He starts with Mark Brunell, who will miss this minicamp with an injured finger. He also has Todd Collins, who was brought in this offseason because of his years and familiarity with Saunders in Kansas City.

"On any team, you'd like to have an established starter who's a veteran, you'd like to have someone who is extremely competent in your scheme and you'd like to have a young quarterback with talent that you're developing to be your future starter. We're in that situation now."

He needs to learn those playbooks, beacause he could be counted on later in the year.

yess, definitly... Mark Brunnell is old and shaky... if he fails or gets injured they are going to need Cambell to get in their and lead the offense...

if campbell is pressed into playing this year, then it will be bad for the redskins, he will be a first year starter that is again learning a new system.

I thought they got Todd Collins to be the back up this year since he knows the offense. Not that he is an improvemnet over Cambell.

collins is an emergency, he is garbage. Campbell is supposedly the QB of the future. If he plays this year, well all new QB's struggle that don't rhyme with bothlesberger

I honestly want to see Collins get another crack at it if Brunnell sucks/gets hurt, not because the Redskins are rivals, but I feel bad for for the Bills completely giving up on him. Hey if Maddox could pull it off, why cant Collins.
