Samuels Plans To Be Back for Season Opener

Quote:
njured left tackle Chris Samuels said yesterday he hopes to return to the Washington Redskins' lineup for the final preseason game, but the status of injured left guard Todd Wade (shoulder) is less clear.
Yesterday, Samuels was at practice as an on-field spectator for the first time since spraining his right medial collateral ligament in practice on July 30. He said that his rehabilitation is going well and that he feels certain he'll be able to play in the regular season opener against the Miami Dolphins at FedEx Field on Sept. 9.
He also would like to get one tuneup for the season by participating in the Aug. 30 exhibition finale at Jacksonville if the coaches and trainers permit it, he said.
"Everything is going well," Samuels said. "I was thinking I'd like to get back for the last preseason game. We talked about it. They just said, 'Don't push it, make sure you don't set it back.' I'll definitely be back for the first regular season game."
Wade's shoulder kept him out of contact drills yesterday -- although he pushed for more reps -- and Coach Joe Gibbs said he is unsure if Wade will be able to play Saturday against Pittsburgh. Mike Pucillo again took Wade's spot in practice. Stephon Heyer (hamstring), who has been replacing Samuels, also returned to practice.
