Default Portis Likely Out on until Week 2

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/

excerpt:

Gibbs says Portis is still day-to-day and it will be the player's decision to play or not. Barring a complete turnaround in the next 48 hours, I wouldn't plan on him for the opener.

I think Gibbs would be smart to hold him out till he is 100%. A lingering shoulder injury could really limit Portis all season, andwhile Duckett and Betts may not be starting quality backs, they should be good enough for a couple games

Now he is saying that he might miss week 2, but definitely would be back for week 3 against Houston

It might cost the Skins in the short run to hold him out, but injuries like that can really limit a HB, if they play him from the start he will be a non factor by week 12, so this is a smart move IMO

Portis says he'll 'probably' return in Week 2

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?...nfl&id=2579399

ASHBURN, Va. -- Redskins running back Clinton Portis is targeting Washington's second game for his return from a shoulder injury.

He essentially ruled himself out for the Monday night opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Though he wore a helmet and his No. 26 jersey during the entire practice Friday for the first time since partially dislocating his left shoulder four weeks ago, Portis said he is focusing on coming back against Dallas or Houston, Washington's third game.

Even if he does play week 2 he wont be healthy. I agree with Grunt, keep him out until he is 100% Duckett and Betts will do fine.
