Shawn Springs is listed as doubtful heading into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. The veteran cornerback sat out Wednesday's practice, but did some light running on the side as he continues to recover from abdominal surgery.
In brief comments to reporters after practice, Springs said he was "feeling better," but he declined to discuss his playing status.
Said Joe Gibbs: "I feel like Shawn is making great progress [in his rehab]. As far as I can tell, he looks real good running. We'll just have to see. Right now, the medical team thinks he shouldn't practice."
If Springs is unable to play, the Redskins would likely go into the Dallas game with Carlos Rogers and Kenny Wright starting at cornerback. Mike Rumph and Ade Jimoh would likely serve in nickel and dime packages.
Dallas has a pair of dynamic wide receivers in Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn. They combined for 10 catches, 161 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' 24-17 loss to Jacksonville last week.
"I do expect them to come after us," Rumph said. "Everyone sees that we have Shawn out and they think it's a weakness. They want to try and expose us. We just have to go out there and compete and show that it's not a weakness."
