21 Pro Bowl players signed by skins under Snyder

I asked this question of SDOGO but he never answered.

I dont have the complete list but here are the one's I know

these were all PRE-Gibbs and Williams:

Bruce Smith (11 times)
Mark Carrier (3 time)
Danna Stubblefield (3 times)
Andre Reed (7 times)
Deion Sanders (8 times)
Larry Centers (2 times)
Irving Fryar (5 times)
Jessie Armstead (5 times)
Darrell Russell (2 times)
Jeremiah Trotter (3 times)
Byron Chamberlain (1 time)
Eric Metcalf (3 times as a KR)
Tom Tupa (1 time...punter)
Eddie Murray (1 time, kicker)
Chad Morton (1 kick ret)
Michael Bates (5 times - yet another KR)

Many of them were brought by Snyder (along with Jeff George in 2000 merely to win the SB that year... they were all past there prime and not expected to be pro bowlers) -- this was Snyders second biggest mistake

To be fair Armstead played VERY WELL as did Russell his only year... the only one that jumps out at me is Trotter, but he never seemed to fit in Marvin Lewis' scheme and also got hurt.... Gregg Williams didnt think he was smart enough to play the MIKE in his system so they let him go. He's one I think is perfect and a "pro bowler" in JJ's system.

Under Gibbs and Williams they signed:

Clinton Portis (1 times)
Shawn Springs (1 time)
Ray Brown (1 time) - he was 40 when the skins signed him to be reserve
Mark Boo-nell (3 times)

All 4 have had good play --- Portis had 1300 and 1500 yard seasons and set the franchise record; Springs has played at "pro bowl" level and even Boo-nell had a 23 TD / 10 INT season last year and got them to the second round of the playoffs. Ray Brown was 40 when they signed him to be a "back up" and then he had to start for both Jansen and Thomas and did very well.

Also under Gibbs they have signed players that were not pro bowlers that have been good and/or made the pro bowl

Marcus Washington (1 time)
Santana Moss (1 time)
C. Griffin (hasnt but played well enough)
Casey Rabach

and the players they brought in this year:

Randle El
Lloyd
Archuletta
Carter

the jury is still out but none were pro bowlers before.

Gibbs and Williams havent shown any desire to go out and get "pro bowlers" --- they've only signed 4 and that's counting 40 year old Ray Brown and 34 year old Boo-nell. Springs and Portis have played at "pro bowl" level.

Football games are won on the field...not in the contract negotiation rooms.

Portis doesn't count. He wasn't signed as a free agent.

then tell me who the "21 pro bowlers" signed since Snyder bought the team -- I could only come up with 20 and that was counting Portis and Boonell who were traded for and I think Stubblefield was signed in 98....

16 of the 20 were Pre-Gibbs and Williams (and if Portis and Brunell dont count because of trade then it's only 2 - Shawn Springs and 40 year old Ray Brown -- but I think ESPN was counting trades as well.

I asked this of the first person to bring this up (SDOGOBO) and he has yet to respond -- I thought he was "all knowing"

Who cares? The point is that your team tries to buy championships and it hasnt worked yet. It takes time for players to gel together and you could get the all time line up together and they probably wouldnt win the superbowl in their first year together. The problem is that the players that your team tries to buy its championship with arent champions.

I couldnt agree more... what they did only mattered if they won football games, not going to the pro bowl games which is why I point out that Gibbs has got them to the second round of the playoffs...

I trust Gibbs -- he did say after benching Brunell that he wasnt done in this league and will be a factor again and was right, but it's hard to see from the mountains here in GA.

All the talk on ESPN and Sirius about the 21 pro bowlers (with NO NAMES mentioned) got me wondering about this and how many were under Gibbs, because he's never cared about that... he went to 4 SB and is in the Hall of Fame, but how many players can you name from those teams in the 80's are in the HOF?

As far I know there's only 1, Riggins
