Redskins acquire WR Lloyd from 49ers

March 11, 2006

SANTA CLARA, California (Ticker) - Seeking to complement Pro Bowler Santana Moss, the Washington Redskins on Saturday acquired receiver Brandon Lloyd from the San Francisco 49ers for two draft picks.

Lloyd, 24, posted career highs of 48 receptions and 733 yards with San Francisco in 2005. He should provide Washington with a solid second option behind Moss, who caught 84 passes for 1,483 yards last season.

The Redskins gave up a third-round pick in 2006 and a fourth-round pick in 2007.

Although he was disappointed by Lloyd's departure, 49ers coach Mike Nolan was excited to receive a pair of draft picks which will further his rebuilding process.

"This is an opportunity to strengthen our team with first-day draft picks," Nolan said. "I am excited about adding some more talent to our roster. I enjoyed the year I spent coaching Brandon and I wish him success with Washington."

A fourth-round selection out of Illinois in 2003, Lloyd has 105 receptions for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns in three seasons.

since they didn't have to give up a first round pick they did a great job. With him on the field Moss should be even better.

do you realize now that the skins only have one pick in the first three rounds, they prolly did this because they know they have no money to sign draft picks. LOL

Good for the Redskins passing attack. Hope the Niners have a plan to replace him now for their sake.

Redskins Ink Lloyd to Long-Term Extension
By Gary Fitzgerald
Redskins.com
April 21, 2006

The Redskins have signed wide receiver Brandon Lloyd to a long-term contract extension, the team announced on Friday. Exact terms of the multi-year deal were not included in the team's announcement.

Lloyd was at Redskins Park on Friday afternoon to sign the deal.

Lloyd, a three-year veteran, joined the Redskins on March 12 as part of a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. He had entered the offseason as a restricted free agent.

After the trade, Lloyd signed his RFA tender, then began negotiations with the Redskins on a long-term contract extension.

The 6-0, 192-pound receiver spent the first three years of his career with the 49ers. He has played in 45 games with 29 starts, tallying 105 receptions for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns.

In 2005, Lloyd had his best season, leading the 49ers in receptions (48), receiving yards (733) and touchdowns (5).

Lloyd was drafted out of Illinois in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft by San Francisco.
