Simpson tackles Defensive Player of the Week honours
Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Barrin Simpson was rewarded for his outstanding play in last week's 2007 Grey Cup East Semi-Final by being named the Rogers CFL Defensive Player of the Week.
Simpson was a key contributor in the Bombers' 24-22 victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the Nov. 11 Semi-Final at Canad Inns Stadium. He made two critical stops, including one on third-and-goal in the second quarter and another late in the fourth quarter that helped set up a Bomber drive that ended in the game-winning field goal.
The Bombers' Minister of Defence finished the game with eight defensive tackles, which led all Winnipeg defenders. He also collected a quarterback sack.
In other Player of the Week news, Bombers kicker Troy Westwood was the runner-up for Special Teams Player of the Week.
