Six Blue Bombers named to CFL All-Star Team
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers placed a total of six players on the 2007 CFL All-Star Team, the league announced today.
The six Winnipeg all-star selections included running back Charles Roberts, wide receivers Terrence Edwards and Derick Armstrong, offensive tackle Dan Goodspeed, defensive tackle Doug Brown and linebacker Barrin Simpson.
Charles Roberts had one of his best seasons as a Bomber in 2007 despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury. He rushed for 1,379 yards and 16 touchdowns on 262 carries. His 1,379 yards were second most in the league and it marked the sixth straight year 'Blink' cracked the century mark in his CFL career. He added another 358 yards on 47 receptions.
Terrence Edwards emerged as one of the CFL's premiere receivers in '07. He finished the year as the Bombers' leading pass-catcher with 1,280 yards and nine TDs on 80 receptions. His 1,280 yards was the highest total of his CFL career and ranked second in the league this past season.
Derick Armstrong provided double trouble for opposing defences this past season. He finished second on the Bombers and fourth in the CFL with 1,142 yards on 83 receptions. He also hauled in six TDs.
Dan Goodspeed rebounded from a devastating knee injury in 2006 to anchor one of the best offensive lines in the CFL this season. Goodspeed and Co. paved the way for Roberts to rush for 1,379 yards this season. He and his fellow Bomber hogs also allowed the fewest quarterback sacks in the CFL this season (27).
Doug Brown was a beast in the trenches for the Big Blue this season. He registered 39 defensive tackles and seven quarterback sacks and his disruptive play allowed fellow Bomber D-linemen Tom Canada, Gavin Walls and Jerome Haywood to 26 additional quarterback sacks.
Barrin Simpson was one of the Bomber leaders on the defensive side of the ball. He led all Winnipeg defenders with 112 defensive tackles, which ranked second overall in the CFL. He also registered four quarterback sacks and two fumble returns.
