Cardinals Dockett: Suck it up Albert, I'd play anywhere for what you're paid

Quote:

Mike Sando of ESPN.com reports Darnell Dockett has pledged to practice and play for the Arizona Cardinals even though his current contract pays him less than the market would if Dockett were a free agent.

It apparently pains Dockett to see Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth skip mandatory camp in protest after collecting $31 million over the last 15 months. Haynesworth reportedly isn't happy about the Redskins conversion to a 3-4 defense. He wants a trade.

Dockett took offense Tuesday night.

"That's why I tell y'all I'm nothing like these dudes," Dockett tweeted, adding that he would play in any defense -- "4-3, 3-4, 5-9, 4-8" -- for the money Hayesworth is getting. .

Dockett has already made the most of a less-than-ideal situation. He earned a Pro Bowl appearance playing a 3-4 defense last season even though he wanted a new deal from the Cardinals and a 4-3 defense might have been more conducive to collecting sacks (Dockett still had 7.0 sacks, 3.0 more than Haynesworth had in four fewer games last season and more than Haynesworth has had in every season but 2008).

There's no law forcing players to play out their contracts no matter what. Teams regularly release players who aren't living up to their contracts. In Hayensworth's case, though, it's tough to sympathize with his approach. Haynesworth's approach should remind Cardinals fans of their good fortune. Dockett will probably bolt from Arizona if the Cardinals ever let him hit the market, but he's showing up and working hard even though the $21 million Haynesworth earned in a bonus payment this offseason represents more than Dockett will have made from 2006 through the 2010 season.

Agreed on that notion.
