Baylor If Big 12 folds, is Big East an option for Baylor?

Quote:
It became very apparent yesterday that Baylor’s logic in effectively delaying Texas A&M’s departure to the SEC was not actually about suing the Aggies or the SEC with the hopes of proving damages — besides, I’ve tossed aside dealing in absolutes, but A&M’s immanent leave is about as certain as it gets — but rather about firing a warning shot to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, whose eyes have been wandering west to the Pac-12.

It’s hard to blame the Baylor for their football re-enactment of the Alamo; it’s been thought that if the Big 12 dissolves, the Bears would be out of a BCS home (and, subsequently, BCS bowls and TV payout).

Unless, and as JT alluded to previously, Baylor was picked up by a BCS conference.

Like, say, the Big East?

According to Jason King of Yahoo! Sports, and citing a source with knowledge of the situation, BU is “confident” that if the Big 12 goes like dust in the wind, that a Big East invite would follow.

While the Big East already placed a footprint in the state of Texas by adding TCU, wrangling Baylor could have its benefits, such as possible excuse to finagle divisions to ensure other members a trip to Texas every year.

It might make more sense than adding, say, Iowa State.

Whether or not Baylor would still pursue any legal action against A&M, the SEC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State or the Pac-12 if BU landed in the Big East is uncertain. Depending on what happens with the Big East and a future TV deal, Baylor could still stand to make substantially less than what they do currently.

“I’m sure we’d consider it,” a university source told King. “But I’m sure everyone would. Why wouldn’t you?”

So, once again we circle the wagon. Baylor, like all Big 12 members, has cast aside unity in exchange for self-preservation. It’s what keeping the conference together now, but really, it’s what’s tearing it apart.
