Default Four Team Plus

When it was determined that we were moving away from the BCS, one of the three formats on the table was the four team plus. It was a little clunky, and was immediately dismissed, but I liked it. It keeps the maximum integrity of the Rose Bowl and it would have worked perfect this year.

Basically you take the P12 and B1G champ, they play in Rose Bowl, then the next four highest play 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 format. Top two teams remaining go to the championship.

This year it would have beenů
Rose - #2 Oregon vs #4 Ohio State
Semifinal - #1 Alabama vs #6 TCU
Semifinal - #3 Florida State vs #5 Baylor

Winners in my opinion are Oregon, Alabama, Baylor so the NCG is Oregon vs Alabama.

I like a 6 team playoff with 1/2 getting a bye. That would give us:

#3 FSU vs #6 TCU
#4 Ohio State vs #5 Baylor

FSU and Ohio State win, giving us what we have now without all the whining from the Big 12. Problem is, I wouldn't have TCU in the top 6 either. I think there's more debate for 6-8 than there is for 4-6.

I 100% agree. I like the NFL format with 6 teams where two get a bye. I would assume the opening two games would be home field in Tallahassee and Columbus. It would be too much to ask a team to play three neutral site games.

I like the home games for sure. I think 6 is the balance we need. Top two are rewarded, which helps preserve the regular season. I also don't think anyone not good enough to make the top 6 has much to complain about.

6 team playoffs is ideal, 5 conference champs and 1 at large. Although I'm not oppose to 8, but any playoffs past 8 devalues the regular season significantly and eliminates the win or go home aspect of the conference championship games.

With the 8 it would be 5 champs and 3 at large. The two problems are that some years we will have a 3 or 4 loss team win a conference. We have had UCLA and GT play in the CCG at 6-6 in recent memory. Mediocrity should not be rewarded. Second, and the most important grievance, is that nonconference games would be near meaningless and only matter for the at large spots. College footballs lifeblood has always been the do or die feeling each week. If we start making 1/3 of the games like preseason NFL, we have ruined the sport.
