They are who we thought they were. Just imagine how many points they would have given up in a previously possible BCS game to Baylor, a hundred seems likely.

And Baylor would have given up around 0. Both those teams don't deserve a BCS bid IMO.

Baylor's D isnt good enough to pitch a shutout. The BCS games arent about "deserve" if it was then Boise, Hawaii, Kansas, UConn wouldnt have ever made it.

Major factor next year is SoS. Now it is.

Fresno State isn't Boise State from a few years ago. They didn't beat anyone to brag about, they hadn't been dominating their conference and they didn't beat Oklahoma in a BcS bowl. It doesn't matter, because we'll probably still have to watch NIU get beat down.

Wait, I thought all of them, including the MNC were about "deserve" over "best"?

The actual NC that happened in reality are about deserve over best. The other BCS games certainly arent. When you have 5 loss Big East champs and non AQ teams with SofS's in the 90s, you know the 10 most deserving teams were not taken. Plus the number of fans that a team brings is usually the tipping point when deciding between two teams. Luckily, in the new system, when 12 teams are taken, there is no cap on the # of teams from one conference. If we get 5 SEC teams, so be it. It will never be the best 12, but I bet the best 8 will always be taken with a bit of collateral damage. The highest ranked group of 5 (i.e. 5 small conferences) will automatically be taken. I dont mind throwing the little guy a bone or a ribbon just for participating. If they got an automatic spot into a playoff, then I would be up in arms. All in all I like the new system, I have done a 180 over the last 3-5 years.

The MNC that teams are voted into instead of playing into is a sham, so I don't particularly care which it is. They won their conference still, so I'd say they "deserve" a spot over a team that didn't, or didn't even win their division. Unfortunately for that, 2011 happened. The college football postseason is about one thing. Money, plain and simple. There is no "deserves" or "best".

If the teams were set in the preseason then you would have a point. 12 games or more are played on the field by each team, then the teams are chosen. It is settled on the field, that's what the 14 week regular season is. How was winning the WAC more impressive than #2 SEC?

12 games against mostly mediocre competition followed by endless debate over which wins or losses look better is not settling anything on the field.

I didn't say it was. Winning the WAC and going undefeated with a win over a team like Oregon could be considered more impressive than being #2 in another conference. You're really missing the point. We don't know. All that we do know is that Boise State had two undefeated seasons and won both of the BcS bowls they went to those years.
