According to NFL.com, Texans linebacker Brian Cushing has verified via his Twitter account that he underwent surgery on his right knee Wednesday. The patella was cleaned up and the knee scoped. Cushing tweeted that the procedure was "about two years overdue."

It is not clear how extensive his rehab will be but this sounds like a minor procedure. Cushing should be good to go for minicamps (unless the players are locked out.)

Cushing was the 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He missed the first four games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy concerning performance-enhancing drugs. Cushing underperformed upon his return from suspension. He finished 2010 with 76 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in 12 games.
