Aaron Kampman’s role to be reduced

Jaguars defensive end Aaron Kampman and running back Maurice Jones-Drew will make their full team practice debuts for the year on Saturday, according to Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union.
Terrance “Pot Roast” Knighton will finally made his practice debut after being on the shelf for eating too many pot roasts during the lockout.
The team has been careful to bring Kampman and Jones-Drew back slowly from their respective knee injuries. Both players will sit out the team’s second preseason game, but it’s a good sign that they have progressed enough to practice fully again.
The Jaguars will continue to be careful with Kampman in the regular season. The former Packer is coming off his second torn ACL in as many years and coach Jack Del Rio wants to keep him healthy.
With that in mind, Kampman’s snaps-per-game will be reduced from roughly 70 to 45 this year. It’s a sensible move, but it highlights the risk Jacksonville took when they signed Kampman to a huge deal last year.
The Jaguars hope he can again be their best defensive player, but he’s no longer an every-down player.
